Farmacy is a body of work that critiques the pharmaceutical industry. Farmacy 4 and 5 draw parallels between domesticated/captive animals and people. I used pill boxes to reference the pharmaceutical industry as well as the never ending routine of consumption. Daily life becomes a push and pull of pain and relief, of problem and solution, and ailment and remedy. In Farmacy 1, 2, and 3 I used pill-like candy as a lure for ants in my backyard. The first group of ants dutifully buried the food source with a frenetic energy. When they had submerged the first layer, I provided a second. Another group of ants came along and completely stripped the second layer of its color. I found an interesting connection between the workforce of ants, driven to hoard and consume, and human society. The relentless pace. The daily grind that can never be alleviated. Big Pharmacy can provide respite.
